If I were to come through the basement, I would still have to cross the drywalled surface, but it would be waist height and possibly subject to damage. The inspector made it sound like this was okay - but I want to make sure before I run anything.Ĭan I puncture the drywall and run the cable through, or do I need some sort of grommet or conduit? Can I just stable the NM to the wall until I reach my unfinished wall? The run would be about 8 feet above the ground and away from any obstacles or damage possibilities. The point at which I would come through the attic would require me to run the cable laterally across about four feet of the drywall to get to the unfinished wall (where I will be adding the receptacles).
The wall I would need to penetrate in the garage is drywalled, however the rest of the garage is unfinished (just insulated). I've talked briefly with the inspector and have the okay to do the rough in. I'm working on running 12-2 NM (new circuit from 20AMP breaker) to my attached garage either through the attic or through the basement floor/joist space where it meets the garage. Looking for opinions from anyone who has experience with these and if the acrylic model is worth saving the money. $70 for a piece of plastic is highway robbery in my book, but $150 for a piece of sheet metal is even worse. FAC-MUR100S Murray Siemens Generator interlock kit transfer switch 100A Listed. Neither are UL listed as my research has dictated that, unless the manufacturer of the panel makes the kit, they cannot get listed.
My suggestion would be to only use the offered interlock by the panel maker you.
The NEC requires an approved transfer switch and reverts to UL 1008 / UL 67 for the requirements of such equipment. This one is $69 (another crime) but seems to serve the same purpose. Reliance said: Most information on interlocks and their requirements are found in the standard for transfer switches - UL 1008. I found another one from which is of similar design, but instead of metal is made out of acrylic (i.e.: plastic). It seems that most people go with the kits from Generator InterLock Kit which are a thin piece of sheet metal and cost $150 - a crime to be sure. I understand the pros / cons of these switches and have determined that it will serve my needs.

I decided to go with an Interlock kit as I could not find an electrician really willing to install my transfer panel (not a transfer switch - I could have done that myself).
